Site Location and Bateman Floor Plan

Following an exciting new job opportunity and with a long enough move schedule to allow for a new home build, we settled on the Bateman floor plan with Ryan Homes.  We chose this model due to its adaptability for 5 bedrooms and its open floor plan on the first floor.

We were lucky enough to pick our lot at the opening of a new section within our community.  We chose Lot #45, which will have a great backyard and borders a wooded section and adjoining farmland.

The shape of our lot dictates that the original Bateman floor plan needs to be flipped to the other side, meaning that our garage will be on the left side of the home when viewing it from the street.  We have chosen to upgrade some of the features of the standard Bateman floor plan (including adding a 5th bedroom with adjoining bath, a finished basement with full bath, and a morning room off the kitchen).

  1. Your kitchen cabinets line up slightly different than the plan we have been presented with. We have what looks to be a 1' section of cabinet/countertop to the left of our fridge which shrinks the space between the fridge and stove by the same amount. I'm curious why they do that differently.

    2. We haven't figured out what dictates the differences in each region's model offerings either. We had made our preliminary option choices to include the 5th bedroom option and then were told that the option was being eliminated in our area. We were able to still include it, since we had already priced it out. Also, the kitchen pictures on the "BuildABateman" blog include what looks to be almost a butler's pantry area (with upper and lower cabinets and a counter) in their pantry area ... but our is currently framed out as a large pantry closet (I'm thinking with bifold doors). Being a family with four boys, I'm not disappointed in the additional storage space, but the cabinetry was pretty. I'm interested to see how it all shapes up with drywall!

    3. We're on the same page. That cabinetry/counter area in their pictures looks nice, but one issue in our current kitchen is a lack of storage. The 6' pantry (ours is supposed to have 2 opposing 2' solid doors) is going to give us a ton of space we aren't used to having, along with the island.

    4. I'd love solid doors on the closet. It's so difficult for me to visualize all the options without a model or pictures. My husband is visiting our house once a week to take pictures for me and the kids, so I'd be happy to ask him to snap anything specific.

    5. Thanks for the offer! We're curious to see everything, so no specific requests (yet). We can't wait to see the interior of your build.
